Situated in a valey with mild weather, in north of Sibiu, Bazna is a Saxon settlement, which had developed between 1270 and 1272. At the end of the IV. century was builded in centre of the settlement a fortress (arround of the church) keeped in good conditions till nowadays. This thing was possible due to the fact that in this zone were not battles and attacks over the fortress. Near of the village was formed the balneary spa with the same name (Bazna), which is keeping the specific architecture of the Saxon area. The climate of these surroundings is favourable for the balneary and touristical activities. The spa fascinates through its position, isolated (protected by the all parts of the winds), becaming in time a wonderful recreation place due to the surroundings nature, with gentle hills, covered by the marvellous fortress. The first steps to the spa’s creation were in XVII.century when was discovered here a gas’ deposit. The mineral waters existence on this zone were some interesting works’ object, Rudolf Rothens remember of these in “Memorabilae Europae”(1749) and dr.Klaus in his work reffers of the Bazna’s water’s beneficial result. In 1814 the mineral waters spring belong to the Evangelis (Lutheran) church’s property from the locality, being submitted of some chemical analyse and in november was chosen a balneary resort’s building. In 1905 was employed the first doctor of the spa, was founded a pharmacy, had begun the Bazna’s salt production named “Victoria”. In 1907, Ludovic Mrazec, the geologist explains the origine of the mineral waters and mud. The secondary natural facts of the resort are represented through the surroundings environment, through picturesque landscapes, which stimulate hikings and also the spa’s park where is an ideal place to walkings and relax. The park is formed from a wide range of trees on a 20 hectares surface prevailing the conifers and willows.
